Cylinder Lawn Mowers
Most of the beautiful, exclusive lawns are cut with cylinder mowers. These machines, for the most part, give an excellent, even cut. Cylinder mowers usually come with a grass box that attaches to the machine and collects the grass clippings as you mow. Cylinder lawn mowers are suited to flat uniform lawns so, if your lawn is bumpy, hilly or rough you should avoid this type of machine.

Rotary Lawn Mowers
Rotary lawn mowers have a long blade that spins around its central point – so that the area it covers is a circle. The rapidly spinning blade cuts the grass with a scythe-like motion. Rotary mowers handle uneven lawns and lawns with longer, rougher grass types.

Gas Lawn Mowers
Gas lawn mowers are usually heavier than electric models and more expensive. Gas mowers often need a strong arm to start them, as they often use a ‘pull cord’ to get going. One of the advantages of these machines is that they are not tied to a power supply. One of the disadvantages is that the running fuel costs and maintenance costs can be higher when compared to other types of mowers.

Electric Lawn Mowers
In today’s market, the electric lawn mower is the most popular type of powered machine. The main reasons for this are its weight (they tend to be considerably lighter than petrol mowers) and price (they are also a good deal cheaper.) One of the advantages of this type of machine is that they are considerably quieter than petrol mowers and the maintenance costs tend to be smaller. The main disadvantages are that electric mowers are chained to a main socket and the extension cable might not reach to the furthest point of your lawn. Also, there is a danger of cutting through the cable which could possibly cause electrocution.

Hand Driven Lawn Mowers
Long before the availability of electricity and gas, we had hand driven and powered lawn mowers. In our motorized and technical world, it is almost surprising that hand driven machines still have a place in the mower market. Some of the biggest advantages of using these mowers is that they are cheap, quiet, and do not need electricity of fuel. One of the disadvantages is that pushing them on anything larger than a small lawn is hard work.
